TEHAMA COUNTY - Four people were taken to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital Monday morning following a collision at Houghton Avenue and Viola Avenue in Corning, the Red Bluff Daily News reported. Scott continued at full speed across the intersection and collided with Fuller's van. Three passengers in the paratransit van, Andrew Wood, 28, of Corning, Kathy Varela, 54, of Red Bluff and Scott Brown, 40, of Red Bluff were injured, along with a passenger in the pickup truck, a 21-year-old Corning woman. San Francisco Hit-and-Run Accident Involving Drunk Driver Kills Pedestrian

A 61-year-old male pedestrian was killed after a 23-year-old man suspected of driving drunk struck him while he was crossing Masonic Avenue at Turk Boulevard. A San Francisco Chronicle article reports that the motorist apparently collided into parked cars over six blocks away from where he struck the pedestrian and then crashed into planter boxes outside of a San Francisco hospital. The series of crashes started around 2:30 a.m. on May 6. The man was arrested outside of the hospital on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was reportedly taken to the hospital for sustaining unspecified injuries.

According to the article, this is the second fatal San Francisco auto accident in less than a year involving a hit-and-run and an allegedly drunk driver at the Masonic and Turk intersection. Last August, a 21-year-old German tourist riding a bicycle was hit and killed by a 36-year-old male driver who pleaded not guilty to vehicular manslaughter and other charges.

In relation to the recent accident, the executive director of Walk San Francisco, a pedestrian advocate group, stated, "We need faster action and more comprehensive redesigns of the streets that we know are most dangerous in San Francisco." The executive director also noted that there is a street redesign process being carried out on Masonic, making it all the more tragic that this fatal crash occurred before the street could be made safer.

State municipalities are responsible for the safe and efficient design of roadways and intersections. While there may be potential grounds for an accident victim or members of their family to obtain compensation for accidents that occur because of poorly designed or dangerous road conditions, not every crash results in a lawsuit.

If you have lost a loved one in a pedestrian accident in San Francisco that you believe was caused by a reckless, drunk, or hit-and-run driver, a San Francisco pedestrian crash lawyer can help you hold negligent parties liable. The time after a fatal accident is devastating and can cause financial burdens that many families don't expect. The sooner you act in preserving evidence from the accident and contacting an experienced attorney, the better your chances of obtaining justice.

High-Speed Chase and Red Light Run Results in Fatal Visalia Car Crash

The Fresno Bee reports that three members of a family from Visalia have tragically been killed in a car accident that was caused by a high-speed chase. According to the article, a male ex-convict ran a red light at the corner of Akers Street and Caldwell Avenue in Visalia, colliding into the vehicle carrying two parents and their 17-year-old son. An investigation has been launched by Tulare County to determine whether department policy was adhered to before the fatal accident while the ex-convict was being pursued. Since the crash is still under investigation, it is uncertain at this time what charges the ex-convict could face in addition to evading arrest and violating parole.

The high-speed chase reportedly started after the deputy attempted to pull over the sport utility vehicle hauling a trailer being driven by the man. After the red light was run, the SUV crashed into the 2000 Chevrolet Impala carrying members of the family. The SUV trailer veered to the side and struck a 2002 Volvo sedan. As a consequence, a passenger in the man's SUV suffered a head injury when she was thrown out of the vehicle and two individuals in the Volvo were injured. The ex-convict sustained minor injuries.

According to information that has been released about the crash so far, the deputy squad car involved in the accident did have its lights and sirens on. In addition, the high-speed chase occurred over a course of approximately two miles and lasted less than two minutes at a time of day when traffic is typically not as congested.

The potential dangers that intersections pose can be avoided if motorists follow traffic signals and yield to the right-of-way of other vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The loss of a loved one is devastating enough without the cause being negligent, reckless, or distracted driving. Fresno wrongful death lawyers have the legal experience and resources to help surviving family members of auto accident victims obtain the compensation that they deserve for their losses and suffering.

The family members of both of the victims of this accident would be well-advised to speak with a northern California personal injury lawyer following this collision. An attorney can review the law enforcement report and advise the victims' families of their legal rights to compensation and best course of action to protect their rights in a personal injury or wrongful death claim.
