Passenger Injured in Lakeport Crash on Highway 175

LAKE COUNTY - A 19-year-old man was taken to Sutter Lakeside Hospital by ambulance last week after an accident on Highway 175 west of Mathews Road, the Lake County Record-Bee reported. The crash occurred when the driver lost control of the car in wet and rain conditions and struck a large oak tree on the north side of the road at about 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21, 2010. The driver, Christian Cisneros, was not hurt in the crash. The passenger, Korbin Renarud, was injured in the solo vehicle accident.

Man Killed Sunday Night in Wreck on Highway 24 in Oakland

24-oakland.jpgA man tragically died Sunday in a crash on Highway 24 in Oakland, the Contra Costa Times reported. The victim, identified by the Alameda County Sheriff's Office Coroner's Bureau as Daniel L. Thompson, 27, of Oakland, had been driving eastbound on Highway 24 at about 7:40 p.m. when he was involved in a collision with another vehicle near Martin Luther King Jr. Way. According to the California Highway Patrol, Thompson's van spun into a wall, and Thompson was ejected onto the roadway and died at the scene of the crash. A passenger in his vehicle was partially ejected. It is unclear how the other vehicle was involved, or if anyone else was injured.

Cause of the December 19th Crash

The CHP is the agency responsible for investigating this fatal December 19th accident. Based on the news reports in the Contra Costa Times, it is unclear what happened to cause this collision. The victim, Tawnya Leanne Alvarez, 40, was reportedly struck by a pickup truck driven by Darrel Hartman, 37, of Shasta Lake. The accident happened at about 5:40 p.m. on Sunday, December 19, 2010.

Cause of the Fatal Pedestrian Accident

The cause of the Shasta County accident remains under investigation by the Redding Police Department. Three People Injured in Crash on Junipero Serra Boulevard

junipero-serra-crash.jpgThree people suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a crash Tuesday morning in San Francisco, KTVU San Francisco News reported. The two-vehicle accident, which involved a 1996 GMC and a 2003 Honda, was reported on Junipero Serra Boulevard, just south of 19th Avenue, near Interstate 280, according to San Francisco police. The accident was reported at 5:20 a.m. After the two vehicles sideswiped one another, one of the vehicles reportedly struck a tree, and another went down an embankment.

A man and woman inside the truck suffered minor injuries and the driver of the Honda may have suffered two broken legs. The cause of the accident remains under investigation; based on the news reports, it was not clear who was responsible.

Pedestrian Struck by Pickup Truck in Willits Crosswalk

west-valley-main.jpgLess than a week after a pedestrian was killed in a Willits crosswalk, another person has been struck in a local crosswalk in Willits. Fortunately, the victim, Kimberly Doe Verville, 47, of Willits, is expected to recover. She was struck by a vehicle on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at the intersection of West Valley Street and Main Street. According to the Willits News, the driver of the pickup truck, Jeffrey Paul Runey, Jr., 36, of Willits, had stopped at the intersection. He told police that he allowed his vehicle to pull forward while he was looking back. He struck Verville and knocked her to the ground. One of the wheels of Runey's pickup truck ran over Verville's ankle. Runey stopped at the scene of the crash. Verville was taken by ambulance to Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital.

Passenger Injured in Head-on Collision in Redding

The two-vehicle crash happened at Northpoint Drive and Lake Boulevard. According to news reports, Manuel Arzate was driving northbound on Northpoint Drive when he crossed the double yellow line and into oncoming traffic. He struck a silver Honda heading southbound on the same road. George Mieger, 68, of Redding, a backseat passenger in the Honda, suffered facial fractures and was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center.

Cause of the Accident

The Redding Police Department is the agency investigating this two-vehicle collision. Based on the news reports, it is not clear why Arzate allowed his vehicle to cross into southbound traffic and collide with the Honda. The Redding Police Department said there was "no illegal activity involved."

Two Pedestrians Injured in Willows Crosswalk Accident

sycamore-villa.jpgThe Oroville Mercury Register reported a 30-year-old Willows man suffered a broken leg Thursday afternoon in a car vs. pedestrian accident in Glenn County, and his wife suffered a foot injury. The accident occurred at 5:40 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at the intersection of West Sycamore Street and South Villa Avenue. The victim, John Ratliff, 30, had been crossing the street with his wife, Melissa Ratliff, and their infant daughter, when the couple was struck by a 2005 Chrysler 300 driven by Sara Sanchez, 33, of Willows. John Ratliff was taken to ambulance to Enloe Medical Center in Chico with a broken leg. His wife was taken to Glenn Medical Center in Willows with a foot injury. Their infant daughter was not harmed. Sanchez was also not injured.

Canadian Man Killed in Mendocino County Crosswalk Accident

main-street-willits.jpgA 65-year-old man from British Columbia, Canada died Sunday night, after he was struck by a Acura sedan on Main Street in Willits, the Ukiah Daily Journal reported. The accident occurred at about 8:45 p.m. in the 1300 block of South Main Street. The victim, Willey Kurz, was in the crosswalk when he was hit by the Acura, driven by Aaron Dalkse, of Willits. Kurz was taken to Howard Memorial Hospital, where he died of his injuries. Dalske reportedly suffered minor injuries.

One Killed, One Seriously Injured in Highway 49 Head-On Collision

mokelumne-river-bridge.jpgThe Martinez News-Gazette reported one person tragically died and one person suffered major injuries the evening of Friday, November 26, 2010 in a head-on collision on Highway 49 on Calaveras County. According to news reports, Margaret Livingston, 66, of Martinez, had been driving a 2007 Volvo southbound over the Mokelumne River Bridge when she approached a right-hand turn in the roadway. She lost control of her vehicle and slid into the opposing lanes of traffic and collided head-on with a PT Cruiser driven by Cindy A. Reading, 46, of Valley Springs. Livingston died in the collision; Reading suffered major injuries and was transported to Sutter Roseville Hospital. A passenger in Reading's PT Cruiser was not seriously injured. According to the CHP, all parties were wearing seat belts.

Cause of the Highway 49 Accident

The CHP is investigating to determine exactly what happened and who is responsible for this collision. Based on the limited information in news accounts, it appears that the driver of the Volvo, who died of her injuries at the crash scene, may have been responsible for this accident. However, an investigation is ongoing.

Four People Hurt December 2nd in Tehama County Crash

lassen-view.jpgThe Red Bluff Daily News reported four people, including a child, were hospitalized Thursday afternoon following a three vehicle collision on Highway 99E. The crash, which happened at 3:20 p.m. in front of Lassen View Elementary School, involved a Nissan Frontier, a Subaru compact car, and a Ford Explorer.

According to news reports, the Subaru, driven by an elderly man, was travelling northbound on Highway 99E, well above the posted speed limit. As he came around the curve in the road, he allowed his vehicle to travel into the right turn lane. The Subaru collided with the front of the Nissan Frontier and the Ford Explorer, which was waiting to make a right turn.

A fifth-grader in the Nissan Frontier suffered a broken arm and wrist. She and her father were flown to Enloe Medical Center. The driver of the Explorer suffered moderate injuries and was taken to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital. Two passengers in the Explorer who were students at the elementary school were released from the scene and picked up by relatives. A passenger in the Subaru suffered moderate neck injuries and was taken to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital.

Cause of the Highway 99E Accident

The cause of the December 2nd Tehama County accident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. However, if news reports are accurate, this crash was likely caused by the elderly man driving the Subaru, who reportedly was speeding and allowed his vehicle to travel into oncoming traffic.

Woman Seriously Injured in San Rafael Pedestrian Accident

mission-nye.jpgA 56-year-old woman suffered major injuries Tuesday evening when she was struck by a car in a San Rafael crosswalk, the Marin Independent Journal reported. The accident happened at about 6 p.m. at the intersection of Mission Avenue and Nye Street. The woman, who was not identified, was struck by a Toyota sedan travelling at about 35 mph. The impact of the collision threw the victim about 10 to 20 feet. According to news reports, the driver stopped following the collision and did not show any signs of intoxication. The injured pedestrian, who was unconscious when firefighters arrived, was taken by ambulance to Marin General Hospital. The driver of the Toyota was not hurt.
